David Weir Elementary

Fairfield, CA

This 1950’s ‘finger plan’ school occupies approximately 44,000 gross sq. ft. located on 8.6 acres. When the neighborhood experienced devolution in the early 90’s, this campus was remodeled and reopened as the District's headquarters, which operated there from 1996 to 2007. As the neighborhood began to generate students once more, the site was again a strategic and viable elementary school for the District.

This ambitious project called for the entire renovation of the site and existing buildings to create a contemporary K-5 campus housing approximately 485 students. The educational specifications outlined the following:

• Budget for construction: $ 6.2 million

• Renovate site & play areas to CDE standards

• Improve Administrative space and function

• Create additional restroom facilities

• Improve staff and visitor parking circulation;

  create a bus turn out and ‘queue’ area

• Create contemporary teaching and learning

  environment with integrated technology

• Create additional Kindergarten space

• Create Library and Media Center space

• Improve the MP Room and platform

• Integrate SED classrooms/building into the

  mainstream of the campus
