Solano County Library

Technical Services

Fairfield, CA

When the Technical Services Division had outgrown their space at the Solano Library Headquarters, the County proposed an 8600 square foot, single-story building located just a quarter mile east of their existing location.  The program called for the complete interior and exterior renovation of the concrete block and wood frame building which had previously housed the post office and the County's computer services center.

Among the many improvements, the final design yielded properly sized spaces and optimal adjacencies. Sustainable strategies include a cool roof, dual glazing, low VOC paints and adhesives, Energy Star equipment, recycled content furnishings, and day-lighting.

Spaces include the Library Foundation office, private offices, conference rooms, break room, space for the future automated handling system and volume sorting area.  The main work station space is washed with natural light from the large translucent skylight which runs east-west.
